Details
Firefighters were called to reports of smoke coming from a disused distillation chamber at an industrial site. When crews arrived, the amount of smoke had already reduced significantly.
Firefighters carried out a full inspection using thermal imaging cameras, working closely with on‑site staff. Two firefighters accessed the structure with a thermal imaging camera to check temperatures, which were found to be low. An aerial ladder platform was then set up to allow crews to reach the top for a closer look and further safety checks.
Firefighters remained at the scene for around three hours investigating and monitoring the affected chamber. Any hot spots were cooled with water.
Temperatures continued to fall throughout the incident and additional checks continued to be carried out at height. Once crews were satisfied that temperatures had dropped to safe levels, the number of fire engines at the scene was reduced.
At around 13:16, firefighters handed the incident back to site personnel, who will continue to oversee the monitoring of the vessel throughout the day and night.
