Emergency services are currently at the scene of a collision involving four vehicles.
Eleven casualties have been assessed by ambulance crews, with support from firefighters, police, and national highways staff.
As a result of the collision, the M6 northbound exit slip road at junction 21A to the M62 westbound (Croft) is closed.
UPDATE 21.25: The number of fire engines has now been reduced to one, with firefighters continuing to make the scene safe.
