Fire crews are currently in attendance at a fire involving a van and numerous flats on Maydews Passage in Macclesfield. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus have entered the building to tackle the fire and evacuate the premises. At this time, we believe all persons have been accounted for. One casualty is now in the care of North West Ambulance Service.
A cordon is in place and we ask the public to keep away from the area while we deal with the incident. Local residents should close windows and doors to keep smoke out.
UPDATE 13:50 Firefighters remain at the scene, but have confirmed the fire is now extinguished. Crews have been tackling the fire using hose reel jets and it is believed to have affected a brick building of flats, a van and a nearby shipping container. A fire investigation will be carried out to determine the cause. One casualty has been taken to hospital. The incident has now been reduced to two fire engines.
