Firefighters were called out to a block of flats after reports of smoke coming from the roof of the property.
Crews wearing breathing apparatus located the fire inside one of the flats and used a hose reel jet to put it out. The fire was contained to the flat.
Four cats were rescued from the property and given oxygen by firefighters using pet masks. As the occupant was not at home, the cats were left in the care of the RSPCA for further assessment.
The cause of the fire is believed to have been items left on the hob.
