Garden Support Volunteer

My name is Tommy, and I run the Garden Support Team at Runcorn Fire Station.

Before joining CFRS I worked for the Ford Motor Company both on the production line and then moved to security and safety checks before retiring.

In the garden’s we grow an array of fruit and vegetables.

We invite local schools to attend the station regularly to guide the pupils, sharing our passion, knowledge and experience on how to grow fresh produce from seed.

Last year over 600 pupils visited the garden from local primary schools in Runcorn Cheshire.

Volunteering keeps my mind active, since losing my wife, it gives me much needed social ability, and an immense amount of pride to see the smiles of achievement on the faces of the pupils that attend.
