Three fire engines from Macclesfield (x2) and Poynton

Firefighters were called to a three-storey block of flats after smoke was seen coming from a communal area.
The fire was located on the ground floor and extinguished with a hose reel jet and dry powder extinguisher. High-pressure fans were used to clear the smoke from the building, and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus evacuated residents and carried out searches.
Police and ambulance crews supported the response. Nine residents were checked over by paramedics as a precaution - no one is believed to have needed hospital treatment.
A fire investigation will take place to determine the cause. The property has been secured, and all residents have been moved to alternative accommodation.
