FOI Request 2131

Subject: Vehicle Fires

Status: Complete

Date received: March 2025

Question Asked:

Please inform me for each of the last 5 years the number of vehicle fires that were reported to you / you attended.

How many each year were in petrol / diesel / electric vehicles?

Can you confirm that EVs can ONLY be charged up on the top floor of the Crewe’s multi storey town centre car park in line with the requirements of the Fire Authority?

If that is so, what is the reason for that requirement?

Our Response:

Please find below the number of fires attended by Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service between 1st April 2020 and 31st March 2025 involving the property category of Road Vehicle. The table is also broken down into the different property types within this category.

Currently the Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service Incident Recording System (IRS) has insufficient facilities for the comprehensive recording, and subsequent analysis, of the fuel type for vehicles involved at fires attended. Therefore, due to the specific information asked for, CFRS cannot provide the data provided.

Crewe Multi-Storey Car Park comes under the jurisdiction of Cheshire East Council.

We have conducted searches of our database and can find no information in relation to E/Vs in the carpark or any input from Cheshire Fire Authority about this matter.
