FOI Request 2153

Subject: MAN Prime Mover

Status: Complete

Date received: May 2025

Question Asked:

So I am under the impression you have swapped one off your MAN prime movers from a fire station somewhere in your region down to Crewe Fire Station.

With this move in mind, would the fire appliance be getting it’s call sign EG from it’s station and have it’s old one replaced with that one.

Basically: would it be like

Old call sign < New call sign

And would Crewe’s old BASU which moved to Congleton Fire Station have their station call sign applied onto that one as well.

I know the call signs already as I am an enthusiast and studied information regarding the call signs from other enthusiasts. I just want to know if the ordeal off them have changed since the move.

Our Response:

In response to your query, the appliances old call sign has to be recycled in North West Fire Control and a form completed to enact the change to the new call sign. This is determined by the station number and also NWFC agreed call signs for appliances.

The Water bowser was one of the prime movers and was previously known as E08T1 for the prime mover and E08N901 for the bowser. We have simplified this and changed it to E15W1 (E15 = Crewe Fire Station and W1 = NWFC agreed call sign for a water tanker).

The BAU that was a Crewe was known as E15S1 but now it has moved to Congleton, it is known as E18S1. (E18 = Congleton station number and S1 = NWFC agreed call sign for BA support unit).
