I would like to make a Freedom of Information Request for the following information:

1. The number of fires attended by your service in 2023 that were caused by cigaretttes.

2. The total number of fires attended by your service in 2023.

3. The number of fires attended by your service in 2024 that were caused by cigarettes.

4. The total number of fires attended by your service in 2024.

Our Response:

Please find below the figures requested for fires attended by Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service in 2023 and 2024. The information has been taken from the Incident Recording System. There is no specific main cause/ignition source category for ‘Cigarettes’ on the Incident Recording System so this data cannot be provided. There is an ‘Ignition Source’ category called ‘Smoking Materials’ but this includes cigars, tobacco, vapes, etc and is not specific to cigarettes.
