Fire crews were called to a single-vehicle road traffic collision on the M6 northbound involving a van. Police closed the motorway in both directions while the incident was dealt with.
On impact, a propane cylinder inside the van had become dislodged. Crews isolated the cylinder and ventilated the vehicle to disperse any escaping gas. A hose reel jet was used to assist with gas dispersal, while a thermal imaging camera and gas monitor were used to ensure the vehicle was safe.
Once the scene was made safe, the incident was handed over to National Highways.
