Every year, around 400 people drown in the seas and inland waters of the UK. These incidents can happen at any time of year, and many could be prevented through a rapid response from someone equipped with the right training and rescue equipment.
In partnership with the RNLI, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service is offering free life-saving training designed to give participants the skills and confidence to safely assist someone in the water before emergency services arrive.
During the session, your staff will learn how to:
Use a throw line to assist in the rescue of a person in the water
Provide safety advice to people using waterside areas
Understand the specific waterside risks near your venue
If your venue is located near water and you would like your staff to take part in this free training, please contact us to arrange a session.
If your venue is near the water and you’d like your staff to take part in this free training, please contact us to book your free session.
We will work with you to arrange a free training session at your venue at a convenient time.
All training materials, including manuals, quick-reference key cards, throw lines, and storage equipment, will be provided free of charge. Your venue will be responsible for storing and maintaining the throw bags, and guidance on this will be included as part of the training.
“The full-time members of my team came to a training session with Jon to learn about water safety and how to use a throw line. The sessions were helpful, well-run and interesting. Jon taught the sessions in an interesting way, and we all came away feeling more confident in water safety procedures. Jon offered further assistance and let us know that he was available to help if needed.” - Jenny, Cafe Manager at Snugburys on the River
“Very informative session today delivered by Jon from the Prevention Department of Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service and his team. The Water Responder Scheme taught our coaches and J14 squad all about water hazards, throw lines and the safest and most effective way to save someone from the water. Both theory and practical, everyone has lots of fun, and learned some potentially life-saving skills.” - Janet, Warrington Rowing Club
“I recently attended the Water Responder course at Quarry Bank, led by Jon, and found it incredibly informative. The course was well-structured, with a great balance of theory and hands-on practice. Jon’s knowledge and clear instruction made the learning experience both engaging and practical. Highly recommended!”- Linsey, National Trust | Quarry Bank
