Question Asked:

Following the Firefighters Pensions (Remedial Service) Regulations 2023 being implemented on the 1st October 2023:

1. Can you confirm the number of Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service retired staff members, who retired between 1st April 2015 and 1st October 2023 who have received their remedial service statement between the following dates: 1st October 2023 and today?

Our Response:

Under the Public Service Pensions and Judicial Offices Act 2022, public sector pension schemes have until 31st March 2025 to send remediable service statements to retired members. In our communications with retired members we have outlined that the Firefighters’ Pension sector are prioritising cases for ill health and ill health beneficiaries first, followed by unprotected and taper protected members and are working to the indicative timeframes proposed by the Firefighters’ Pension Scheme Advisory Board which can be found at

To date, the administrator XPS Pensions have not sent out any remediable service statements.  XPS are working towards producing the first statements for ill health cases in March 2024 as per the indicative timeframes.
