Question Asked:

Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, please provide me with the following information:

1. Total number of car fires attended by the Fire and Rescue service over the past 5 years with a yearly breakdown if possible.

2. Total number of car fires attended by the Fire and Rescue service over the past 5 years with a breakdown by fuel type if possible.

Please can you also share any details of the make and model of these cars and model year, if you have this information.

Our Response:

Please find below the data requested regarding car fires attended by Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service between 1st April 2020 and 31st March 2025 (5 years). The information has been taken from the Cheshire Fire and Rescue Incident Recording System.

The following caveats apply to the data provided:

• Incidents recorded as a Fire with the property type of Road Vehicle - Car have been provided

• Both deliberate fires (arson, etc) and accidental fires (fault in engine, careless disposal, etc) have been included

• Currently the Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service Incident Recording System (IRS) has insufficient facilities for the comprehensive recording, and subsequent analysis, of the fuel type for vehicles involved at fires attended. Therefore, due to the specific information asked for, CFRS cannot provide the data requested

• If a make and model has been recorded on the incident report it has been included (only certain accidental fire causes allow the manual recording of a make and model)
