Emergency services have been dealing with a road traffic collision involving three vehicles on the M62 eastbound carriageway near Junction 9.
One of the vehicles involved in the collision caught fire and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire. The motorway was closed in both directions while the fire was being extinguished.
Shortly before 16:00 the westbound side of the motorway was reopened. Ambulance crews on also at the scene assessing one person involved in the collision.
No one was trapped in their vehicle.
The eastbound side of the motorway is expected to remain closed for some time.
UPDATE 16:30 Fire crews have now left the incident with Police and Highways. We will issue no further updates.
