- Air flow mattress

Pillows and mattresses are filled with air by a pump. The equipment allows the pressure to be increased or decreased to the needs of the individual using it.
Dynamic air mattresses use an electric pump to fill themselves with air. In the event of a puncture, the pump will work harder and keep the mattress inflated. When the puncture is caused by an ignition source the escaping air will act as bellows which could cause the fire to grow and to spread to other areas quickly.
Keep all heat sources, including fires and heaters, well away from airflow mattresses and related equipment.
Do not smoke in bed or near the mattress and equipment.
Never use an electric blanket in conjunction with an airflow mattress.
Ensure electrical equipment is regularly inspected and maintained, paying particular attention to damaged cables, plugs, and wiring.
Avoid charging phones, tablets, or other electrical devices close to the mattress or equipment.
Keep ignition sources such as candles, lighters, and matches away from the bed area.
Do not place hot appliances, including hairdryers and hair straighteners, on or near an airflow mattress.
Reduce the risk of electrical fires by avoiding overloaded sockets and using only approved extension lead adaptors where necessary.
Consider using fire-retardant bedding to improve fire safety.
If emollient or paraffin-based creams are required, use a mattress protector and wash it daily. Consult a healthcare professional about safer alternatives where appropriate.
Ensure all electrical equipment is positioned at a safe distance from airflow mattresses and is kept in good working order.
Share this fire safety guidance with family members, friends, carers, and anyone involved in supporting a person who uses an airflow mattress.
