Use electric blankets safely and check they meet safety standards to reduce the risk of fire.

Check your electric blanket regularly. Do not use it if you notice any of the following issues.
Scorch marks or discoloured areas on the fabric.
Wires visible or coming through the fabric.
Frayed or worn material.
Damage to the power cord or control cable.
Buzzing noises or unusual smells from the control.
Signs of overheating or damage where the cord connects to the blanket
If you are unsure whether your blanket is safe, stop using it and contact the manufacturer for advice.
Buy new blankets from reputable retailers, avoid second-hand products.
Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
Check your blanket regularly for wear or damage.
Use the blanket as intended (do not use underblankets as over blankets).
Do not use the blanket while it is folded or creased.
Do not use a hot water bottle at the same time.
Do not use the blanket if it is wet or with wet hands.
Have your blanket checked by a qualified technician at least every three years.
Allow the blanket to cool before storing.
Fold or roll it loosely to avoid damaging internal wires.
Store in a cool, dry place.
Do not place heavy items on top of the blanket.
Do not use mothproofing chemicals.
