Deep fat frying

Take care when cooking with hot oil, as it can easily catch fire.

Deep fat frying safety

  • Make sure food is dry before placing it in hot oil to prevent splashing.

  • Turn off the heat if the oil starts to smoke and leave it to cool.

  • Use a thermostat-controlled electric deep fat fryer to help prevent overheating.

If a pan catches fire

  • Do not take risks. Turn off the heat if it is safe to do so.

  • Never throw water on a fire.

  • Do not attempt to tackle the fire yourself – Get out, stay out and call 999.
